Meet Our Inspiring Principal, Lloyd Knight

Lloyd Knight is a visionary educator and leader dedicated to transforming urban education through holistic, student-centered approaches. With a career spanning roles as a student teacher, classroom educator, curriculum resource teacher, assistant principal, and principal, Knight has consistently turned struggling schools into beacons of progress.

At CICS Lloyd Bond in Chicago, his leadership helped lift the school from the closure list to the city’s fourth-best charter elementary school in just two years. In Indianapolis, he tackled Thomas Carr Howe Community High School, Indiana’s longest-failing school, guiding it off the closure list to a C rating on the state report card within two years. In Ohio, as principal of Midnimo Cross Cultural Middle School and founding principal of Unity Academy High School, his team shattered five of seven school records on the Ohio State Test over two years.

Beyond the classroom, Knight is an author and thought leader. His book, The 3 Phases of School Culture, published on March 9, 2022, debuted as the number-one book globally in 90-Minute Instructional Manuals and Education Administration Kindle Releases, holding the top spot for two weeks. The book reflects his belief that schools must nurture students’ minds, bodies, and souls to break cycles of inequity: a mission that drives his work.

A trained peacekeeper, Knight brings a restorative approach to education, fostering environments where students and communities thrive. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Shaw University in North Carolina and a Master of Arts in Education Leadership from DePaul University in Chicago. With an unwavering commitment to justice and empowerment, Knight continues to redefine what urban schools can achieve, building sanctuaries of learning that honor every child’s potential.
